OPEN YOUR EYES AND BE AWARE
A Resource for HIV and AIDS Awareness Workshops. "Open Your Eyes and be Aware" is a brief video that addresses HIV and Aboriginal youth. In 1999, the Enoch Spirit Fire Ensemble, a youth group from the Enoch Cree Nation, created a music video based on the lyrics "Be Aware." With the assistance of Native AIDS activist Ken Ward and community resource people, the group created a brief play, Open Your Eyes and Be Aware. The play and a rap performance of “Be Aware” by Conrad Kootenay and the Red Power Squad are included on this 5 minute video. A 24-page Facilitator’s Guide designed for awareness workshops for First Nations youth aged 13-19 was developed to accompany the video. The guide is included with the video.
