A BALANCE OF CULTURES
Today the Native Peoples of North America are living with two different Medical and Healing systems. This video looks at these different approaches. The Program is designed to improve understanding between non native health care workers and native people. Often language differences occur with elders in certain areas. Communication is essential.
Historically, the arrival of missionaries and residential schools resulted in suppression of traditional healing practices. Changes in diet and the need to cope with new diseases made the people increasingly reliant on North American healing methods. In many communities the rapid change forced traditional healers to practice in secrecy.
Featuring both traditional and contemporary practitioners, this video is an ideal cross cultural tool for hospitals, clinics, government departments and Native Communities.
