Kisemanito Pakitinasuwin - Creator's Sacrifice

"Kisemanito Pakitinasuwin - The Creator's Sacrifice" celebrates creativity and the human spirit. Documentary filming started one bitterly cold evening as Ovide Bighetty and a few friends set-up a makeshift studio. This creative space became Ovide's second home for the next eighteen months as he painted Kisemanito Pakitinasuwin - The Creator's Sacrifice in his unique Woodland Cree style.

Bighetty's studio is a soon-to-be-renovated house adjacent to the Indian Metis Christian Fellowship, IMCF, a Christian urban aboriginal ministry serving the spiritual and social needs of an inner-city neighborhood in Regina Saskatchewan Canada. The presence of IMCF is a source of support for his project, but also a reminder that the completion deadline is fast approaching. IMCF Director Bert Adema is always there to lend a helping-hand and to provide the spiritual guidance that is so much a part of this project. The camera follows Ovide in a direct cinema style as he creates a remarkable body of work that is stunning to behold.

Filmmaker Donald List explores Ovide's creative process that takes him through layers of traditional First Nation beliefs to a place in his heart where his Christianity and traditional values come to rest. What we see on canvas is the result of this harmonious union of mind, body and spirit.
